Chandigarh: Even as Omicron (B.1.1.529), a very contagious variant of Coronavirus, has produced a lot of fear and panic among health and public experts, Delta (B.1.6172) of this virus will cause chaos in the region.

There are no samples so far have been tested positive for Omicron in Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, while the Delta variant which triggers the second wave of infection has been found in 3,273 samples and Delta Plus – sub-genealogy delta with three mutations in a surge – in 10 Samples are checked for genome sequencing.
In Punjab, the count of Delta and Delta Plus variants detected in a positive sample of Covid-19 stands at 1,427 and two.
A total of 1,027 samples were positively tested for Delta and one for Delta Plus at Himachal Pradesh, while 485 Delta and three Delta Plus in Haryana.
As many as 334 Delta and four Delta Plus variants have been found in the sample checked in Chandigarh.
According to early research, new tensions, the first time detected in South Africa, so far showed more than 30 mutations compared to Delta 18 and said more than four times more contagious than Delta.

From 2,06,55,301 qualified populations, Punjab has successfully vaccinated around 40% or 81,70,450 beneficiaries.
More than 81% of the targeted populations have been given their first jab.
Himachal has covered half of the population who qualified with both doses, while Haryana almost touched a half-way sign.
Following the commemoration issued by the Central Government, Punjab Health Authority, Haryana, Himachal and Chandigarh have increased preventive measures against Omicron.
The monitoring of international travelers in the community has begun, while all positive samples are sent for genome sequencing to insacog labs.
In addition, ensuring identification of initial cases through adequate testing and contact searches, the central government has also asked each state government to maintain health infrastructure ready.
