Panaji: More than 90% of Covid-19 deaths in Goa for the past three months have been among those who are not vaccinated.
In the strong indication of the effectiveness of vaccines, especially after dosage, statistics with the Ministry of Health showed that 92.3% of all those who surrendered to Covid-19 in the government and private hospitals during the second wave did not even take a single vaccine dose.
Of the 2168 Covid-19 deaths between April 24 to July 27, it has been found that 99.5% (2,000) deaths are among the populations that are not vaccinated and some vaccinated.
Partial vaccinated contributed 7.2% (157 people) of death and fully vaccinated only 0.51% (11 people).
Although vaccination for the younger age group began later this year, the Ministry of Health found that the deceased included senior citizens, which had begun on vaccinatio on March 1 but had not received a single dose of vaccines.
Data includes death in public and private hospitals.
Epidemiology of the State Dr.
Utkarsh Betodkar told TI that statistics were proof that vaccination was “very effective”.
“This data is the greatest proof for everyone, and that is why we need to take vaccines.
Pandemics have influenced everything from business to school and work.
Vaccination is one of the fastest ways for us to be able to return to our normal life,” he said.
With reports that the third wave can hit the state in September, Betodkar said that vaccination would prevent sick people and develop complications from Covid-19.
“Every day, there are 10-20 hospital admissions and about two deaths, the majority of which are included among those who are not vaccinated.
We don’t want anyone to die when we have a vaccine,” he said.
From measles to TB, there are several good examples of vaccination roles played in protecting the population for decades.
“The latest example is polio.
We can eradicate it only through vaccination.
Here also (polio) there are minimum side effects and vaccines given to children under the age of five,” he said.
He appealed to people to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
“There is no reason to doubt and think negatively about vaccines when there are so many positive results.
Our statistics are this evidence,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state is close to but has failed to meet the target of the first dose of vaccines up to 100% of the population who qualified as July 31.
On Saturday 1.57,203 people (13%) were not vaccinated.
As many as 22.6% of the population was fully vaccinated, 64.2% was vaccinated in part and 86.8% had taken at least one vaccine dose on July 31.
