LONDON: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will spend 10 days isolate himself after contact with the confirmed Coronavirus case, his office said on Sunday – reversing the previous announcement that he did not need to quarantine.
Johnson’s Downing Street Office said on Sunday that the head of Prime Minister and Treasury Rishi Sunak stung overnight by the English test-and-trail telephone application.
He held a meeting on Friday with Health Secretary of Sajid Javid, who was positively tested for Covid-19 on Saturday.
Javid, who has been fully vaccinated, said he was experiencing mild symptoms.
People who are told through the application should isolate themselves, even though it is not legal requirement.
Contact positive cases are usually recommended to isolate themselves for 10 days.
But Johnson’s office initially said the Prime Minister and Sunak would actually take the daily Coronavirus test as part of an alternative system tested on several workplaces, including government offices.
The plan was reversed less than three hours later after protests about clear special treatment for politicians.
Street Downing said Johnson would isolate himself at the checker, residence of the Prime Minister, and “will not take part in the pilot testing.” He said Sunak will also isolate himself.
England experienced increased coronavirus cases, and “pingdem” related to hundreds of thousands of people told to be quarantined because they were near someone who tested positive.
Businesses include restaurants, car manufacturers and subway London said they faced staff lack because of self-isolation rules.
Jonathan Ashworth, a health spokesman for the Opposition Labor Party, said earlier that many people would be angry that there was a special “VIP” line to avoid self isolation.
“Wake up this morning to hear that there are special rules, exclusive rules, for Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak, they will say that this looks like one rule for them and something else for all of us,” he told Sky.
News.
Johnson was seriously ill with Coronavirus in April 2020, spent three nights being hospitalized in intensive care.
In a touch of irony, his spell in isolation came when the government prepared to raise the remaining locking steps on Monday.
Nightclubs can be reopened in the UK for the first time since March 2020, sports and entertainment venues can recognize the crowd of capacity and face masks is no longer mandatory in the room.
But the government urges people to be careful, because cases soar because the Delta variant which is very transmitting from the virus was first identified in India.
More than 54,000 new infections were confirmed on Saturday, the highest daily total since January.
Inpatient and death also increased, but remained much lower than the peak of previous infections thanks to vaccination.
More than two-thirds of British adults have both vaccine shots.
British officials look nervous in Israel and the Netherlands, both opened the community after vaccinating most of the population.
The two countries recently reached out some restrictions after a new infection surge.
