Including book sales in important services: Bombay HC

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Friday issued a notification to the center and the Maharashtra government for the writing petition that searched for that book sales were included in the list of important services in view of restrictions related to Covid-19 safety which was enforced in the state.
A high court bench led by Justice K K Kated issued a notification, asking the government to respond to the request submitted by Marathi Prakashak Parishad, a Marathi book issuer organization from Pune.
In the request submitted through Advocates Asim Sarode, Ajinkya Udane, the Petitioner’s organization said that the restrictions on the opening of the bookstore as part of the restriction of the safety of Covid-19 which was enforced in this country had affected the book publishing industry.
While the availability of alcohol has been considered even during last year’s locking, why the state and authority of the central government does not include sales of books in the list of important services, submitting a request.
The applicant’s organization has been looking for that the Government Government includes sales of books in the list of important services that are notified based on important service maintenance laws.
It also looks for directions to the Maharashtra government to see other countries, such as Kerala, which allows book sales even amid restrictions related to pandemics, and make similar settings.
“Books must be declared as an inseparable part to run the right to life with human dignity and freedom of expression,” he read.
Furthermore, said that “the process of reading the book reduces stress” and helps someone achieve “better mental health”.
The High Court will hear further application next month.
