Increase O2 beds to 20% to prepare another surge: VIJ

Gurgaon: Given the third potential covid wave and perhaps a greater surge in cases, Minister of Health Haryana Anil Vij on Tuesday directing all districts in the state to increase the bed of an oxygen by 20% earliest.
Gurgaon, after the increase, will have more than 3,500-4,000 oxygen beds for covid patients and around 1,000 beds for pediatric patients.
In 75 hospitals throughout the city who treated Covid patients, there were 2,555 oxygen beds, including 294 ICU beds without ventilators and other 576 with ventilators.
The city also has 809 beds for pediatric patients, including 287 ICU and 89 beds with ventilators.
VIJ, in video conferencing with the district health department and administration, highlighted the importance of readiness for the third wave.
He asked the district to increase the availability of oxygen beds to the level of public health center.
Yash Garg, Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon, said: “Preparation for overcoming the third wave is taking place.
This time, we only focus on increasing oxygen beds.
We will have 30-32 PSA factories in Gurgaon on July 30.
We have directed all hospitals Private to increase their capacity and to ensure that there is no shortage of drugs, “Meanwhile, the district has been asked to conduct an assessment and inspection of special Covid care centers, hospitals and ensure that Covid norms are followed in public places and functions.
VIJ added that the Covid monitoring committee will be formed in each district.
In Haryana, at present, there are 409 beds available at 24 specialized newborn care units (SNCU) and for pediatric patients, there are 294 beds in 22 district hospitals.
A total of 170 ventilators, 482 bipap, and 103 HFNC are available for pediatric use.
At present, there are 13 contracts and 54 regular pediatricians in the state, which will increase immediately, according to the Ministry of Health.

Virender Yadav, Chief Medical Officer, Gurgaon.
Meanwhile, VIJ added that there was a need to speed up vaccination drives.
The Secretary of the Additional Chief (Health) of Rajiv Arora directs the district deputy commissioner to review the situation every week and ensure compliance with the guidelines.
Apart from this, vaccination in rural areas must be accelerated with a focus on the second dose.
