New Delhi: Union Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday asked his ministry official to revise the maximum speed limit for vehicles and increase it with various categories of roads.
He also directs officials to place the mechanism of uniformity of speed limits in certain stretches rather than the effects that often change within the speed limit that is notified even in short stretches.
At present, the maximum speed limit that is notified by the Ministry of Transportation is 100kmph on the national highway for cars and 120kmph on the freeway.
But the state police and other institutions have the authority to improve the speed limit on the highway and freeway fall under their jurisdiction.
This is the main reason why the speed limit on certain parts of the NHS is different from the country to the country.
Viewudden times and changes in speed limit limits are the main problem in many cities.
Policies for uniformity will be a step in the right direction.
This will make driving easier for laws that obey and also reduce the chances of accidents that can be caused by the driver suddenly slowing down.
What’s more, the different speed limits above the road, especially in cities, has become a major problem for passengers.
What adds to the problem is an inadequate number of signs that display the allowable speed limit.
The source said Gadkari issued a clue to ministry officials while leading the review meeting.
Last year Gadkari has marked how the local police sentenced commuter driving more than 40 kmph on the highway multi-lane within the city limits and called this “Malang”.
However, given that accelerating is the main cause of road accidents and deaths, road safety experts have stated that the speed limit on the road must be well defined and notified.
