Mumbai: rebuilding old buildings received encouragement in the state as long as Covid as MHADA gave approval for projects, in the process of collecting the highest income level of costs and premiums: in just five months, from April to August 2021, the agent was collected Rs 1,171.86 Crore through this approach.
In comparison, in 12 months from April 2020 to March 2021, the agency had collected 261.38 crores.
From the moment the pandemic began, the total collection of income MHADA had more than Rs 1,433 Crore, a record for housing agents.
From April 2020 to August 2021 (last month for which data was available), Mhada gave approval or offering a letter to 193 rebuilding projects.
In comparison, the agency only approved 162 projects in three years from 2017 to 2020 before the pandemics broke out.
Mhada officials said rapid tracking approval and a 50% discount in the premium offered by the state government had helped builders and that was the reason behind the rebuilding.
Builders pay premiums to Mhada to get additional construction rooms and concessions in such rules having open space and large stairs.
Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad said he pushed towards the rapid rebuilding of buildings governed by Mhada who were old and dilapidated and the agency had been asked to issue a refill letter sequentially.
“We have cleared several projects trapped for decades.
We have provided letters and make ways to rebuild some projects such as Patra Chawl, Chikhalwadi, Motilal Nagar and even BDD Chawls.
This happens because of fast tracking processes.
Those who live in buildings This old building will soon get a new home, “Awhad said.
There are 14,000 odd buildings in the city.
Many need to urge rebuilding.
