Pune: The number of deaths and injuries due to accidents in the city has increased this year because of the combination of factors such as the relaxation of sidewalks, the addition of the highway from the villages to join and vehicles that are speed.
A total of 145 accidental deaths were reported between January and August this year because of 143 deaths were recorded in 2020.
The city has recorded as many as 206 road accident deaths in 2019.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Rahul Shrirame said the numbers so far this year Mostly because of the merger of Lonukand and Loni Kalbhor Stations with city police limits.
“Most of the road fatalities occur on the highway Pune-Solapur and Pune-Ahmednagar and the Katraj-Dehu bypass road,” said Shrirame.
According to Shrirame, the city in the past eight months witnessed at least 140 accidents where 145 riders died.
“In some accidents, there are many deaths.
The majority of victims are two-wheeled riders; as many as 90 people driving a two-wheeled vehicle died,” said Shrirame.
“In an eight-month period in accordance with last year, 95 reportedly died in an accident on the streets of the city,” police officers said.
Referring to the busy Katraj-Dehu bypass road and two main highways, Shirame said accelerating was a problem and thus the number of deaths on this stretch was higher.
“Lonukand has reported 19 deaths on Jalan Pune-Ahmednagar while Loni Kalbhor reported 16 deaths at the Highway Pune-Solapur,” said Shrirame.
“Likewise, 30 people died at Jalan Bypass Katraj-Dehu, especially in areas such as Bharati Vidyapeth, Sinhagad Road and Warje, while the Katraj-Kondhwa road had witnessed eight deaths,” he said.
“Also, part of Pune-Ahmednagar Road from Jerawada to Kharadi has witnessed 13 fatalities,” he said.
“The parts of the Pune-Solapur highway and the Pune-Saswad highway in Hadapsar recorded a total of 15 deaths,” he said.
According to traffic police, the parts of the old city did not watch a big accident.
The Faraskhana area, Khadak and DECCAN did not watch the victim.
Likewise, there are no fatal accidents in the regions of Cantonment.
