India called for social security agreements in BRICS countries

New Delhi: BRICS members have decided to start the social security agreement in the “reasonable time frame” in a step that will provide assistance to workers from five countries.
At the BRICS meeting the Minister of Work chaired by Bhupender Yadav India, countries have agreed to start with the exchange of information about work and social security for cross-border workflows, a official statement said.
The Minister emphasized the need to sign the social security agreement to promote the welfare of international migrant workers.
These agreements will ensure that contributions made in one of the five group member countries can be portable in some cases if relocation to the country of origin, which often does not occur.
This step will be a special interest in India and China, which has a larger mobility of workers.
