New Delhi: With a rapidly growing fashion industry in this country, India has the potential to become the center of the world fashion, said Minister of Union Piyush has said.
The minister said that the spirit of independence can be channeled by helping weavers and craftsmen get legitimate contributions.
He was handling a meeting ceremony at NIFT, Delhi on Friday.
Goyal also asked students and alumni of the National Fashion Institute (National Institute Fashion) to empower the country’s weavers and craftsmen by connecting them to the market.
Design, packaging and branding for craftsmen products can give them good returns and students can consider working with them in this direction, said Goyal.
He said the quality of India must define what world class and the Institute have a leading role to play.
“NIFT students have the means to place our rich traditions in textiles, design, embroidery on the global platform.
India has the potential to become the center of the world fashion.
NIFT can maintain innovative ideas for Indian cloth and textiles,” he added.

Founded in 1986, NIFT has contributed greatly to the Indian fashion industry.
NIFT, Delhi is involved in 12 prestigious projects starting from uniform design, product design to visual merchandising.
The combat uniform from the Indian Army project is one of them with the total cost of the RS 103.20 Lakh project.
