India is able to meet the demands of coal internally: Union SECY

Ranchi: Secretary of Batubara Union Anil Kumar Jain on Tuesday claimed that Indian coal-producing companies were able to fulfill the country’s domestic coal requirements.
Jain, who discussed the third edition of the Jharkhand Conclary Mine organized by the Indian Industrial Confederation Chapter (CII) in a city hotel here, claimed that the recent coal crisis nationally opened the potential of Indian domestic coal production.
“Domestic coal-based thermal power plants in India produce 24% more power than last year while plants that depend on imported coal produce 30% less,” Jain said like saying in a statement issued by CII.
He added that coal production was dipped due to logistical problems during the rainy season.
“Coal India Limited (CIL) produces almost 19.5 lakh tons (every day) during the other season while production falls up to 13-14 lakh tons during the rainy season,” Jain said.
He added that commercial mining will take the quality and awareness of the market because the coal market seems to turn into buyers oriented.
“This is the right time for consumers and challenging for producers,” he added.
The Chairperson of the State Council CII Chanakya Chaudhary, who is also a vice president (corporate service) from Tata Steel, stressed that there was a need to focus on the production of mining equipment to provide a boost of the mining sector in the country.
“There is a need to instill advanced technology into the equipment to make it in the future ready.
There is also a need to promote special skills through training and skills development that will meet the needs of mining equipment and machinery,” Chaudhary said at the Conclary.
