A report by TrueCaller has now confirmed that India is one of the worst affected calls and spam messages.
In a report released by the company, India ranks number four on the list of the top countries affected by spam calls in 2021.
It is not surprising to see that most of the – 93.5% – of all spam in India is a sales call or Telemarketing.
The report also revealed that more than 202 million spam calls were made with only one spammer in India this year.
If you break it down then it is 6.64,000 calls every day and 27,000 calls every hour every day.
The report by TrueCaller also revealed that the average number of spam calls per user per month stands at 16.8.
The total spam volume received by TrueCaller users is only more than 3.8 billion calls in October.
Brazil is ranked number one on the list of the most spam countries in the world (four consecutive years) with 32.9 spam calls per user per month.
There is a significant gap between the average number of spam calls received in Brazil (32.9 calls per month per month) versus Peru (18.02 calls per month per month), which stands in second place.
This is not only about spam but also fraud because the report explains it too.
One of the most common fraud in the country remains a KYC scam that is always popular where fraudsters pretend to be banks, wallets or digital payment services, requesting KYC documents of users as mandated by Indian reserve banks.
