Hyderabad: Research and Defense Development Organization (DRDO) conducted a successful flight test from the new Akash (AKASH-NG) missile from the integrated test range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha on Friday.
This test was carried out on the target of high-speed unmanned air, which was successfully intercepted by missiles.
Flight tests have validated the functioning of a complete weapon system consisting of missiles with RF searchers, launchers, multi-function radars and communication systems, control, and communication.
This test was carried out in the midst of bad weather conditions that proved the ability of all weather from the weapons system, the Defense Ministry said.
System performance is validated through data captured by a number of radars, telemetry and electrical optical tracking systems used by ITR, Chandipur.
A team of Indian Air Force officers watched the test.
On July 21, the missile was successfully tested flights without finders to meet all the mission requirements.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated Drdo, the Indian Air Force and the industry on the second flight test that was successful from Akash-ng in the span of three days.
He said the development of this sophisticated missile system would be proven to be a powerful multiplier for the air defense capabilities of the Indian Air Force.
