New Delhi: When joining other stakeholders in pressing the Taliban for inclusive government in Afghanistan, India is likely to host its own conference on developing situations in the country next month.
The government deals with Russia, China, the US and several regional countries for conferences which will likely take place here in the second week of November.
The final confirmation of the conference invitation was awaited.
According to sources, India has proposed that the conference be held on November 10 or 11.
Although there were no plans to invite the Taliban for the conference, the invitation to Pakistan was not ruled out.
ToI also knew that India had, in fact, plan a similar conference in May this year with the participation of the Afghan government later and also Pakistan but the second wave of Covid-19 set the plan.
The situation is far more complex now with the Taliban has taken over the country.
The conference in India will take part in Moscow’s format talks on October 20 for Russia, as in the past, has also invited India.
Just before Moscow’s format, Russia’s expanded Troika covering the US, China and Pakistan will also hold meetings.
Conference in India is likely to continue the agenda of Moscow format talks and will seek to ensure a more inclusive government in Afghanistan while emphasizing the needs of the Taliban to ensure that the Afghanistan region is not used for cross-border terrorism.
PM Narendra Modi itself said that the government in Afghanistan was not inclusive and that the international community should not be in a hurry to admit it.
The conference will also provide Indian opportunities to underline the significance of the resolution of UNSC 2593 August 30 which according to the government must form a world agenda in Afghanistan.
Senior government officials are expected to participate in meetings which will also underline the need for Afghanistan to have unrestriated access to humanitarian aid.
