New Delhi: In the second stage of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after falling to the Taliban, India on Saturday supplies 5.00,000 doses of covaxin vaccine into a torn country war and announced that the same number of jabs will be sent for the coming weeks.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the consignment of vaccine doses was handed over to Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul.
It is said another collection of an additional 5,00,000 vaccine doses will be supplied to Afghanistan in the coming weeks.
The consignment was sent to Kabul with Iran’s mahan air flights.
“Today, India supplies the next Humanitarian Help batch consisting of 500,000 covid vaccine doses (covaxin) to Afghanistan.
The same thing was handed over to Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kabul,” said MEA in a statement.
“Another batch of 500,000 additional doses will be supplied in the coming weeks,” he said.
MEA said India was committed to providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghans consisting of food grains, one million doses of Covid-19 vaccine and essential life-saving drugs.
“In the coming weeks, we will do wheat supply and residual medical assistance.
In this case, we are related to UN agencies and others to complete modalities for transportation,” he said.
India has announced that it will send 50,000 tons of wheat and drugs to Afghanistan through road transportation through Pakistan.
India and Pakistan now complete modalities for consignment transportation.
Farid Mamundzay, Afghan envoy to India appointed by the Government of Ashraf Ghani, said the vaccine received by Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul will be supplied to many hospitals in this country.
“Another batch of an additional 500,000 doses will be supplied in the coming weeks.
Thank you India because it provides a live Afghan gift on the first day 2022! I hope this year will be peaceful & prosperous for all Afghans,” he tweeted.
India has been pitching to provide humanitarian assistance without obstacles to Afghanistan to overcome the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country.
India has not recognized the new regime in Afghanistan and has thrown for the formation of a truly inclusive government in Kabul in addition to insisting that Afghan land should not be used for any terrorist activity against any country.
India has been related to the recent developments in Afghanistan.
It held a regional dialogue in Afghanistan on November 10 which was attended by Russian NSA, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Participating countries vowed to ensure that Afghanistan did not become a safe place for global terrorism and called for the formation of the government “open and truly inclusive” in Kabul with representation of all parts of the Afghanistan society.
The declaration released at the end of the Delhi Regional Security dialogue in Afghanistan said the Afghanistan region should not be used to protect, training, planning or financing acts of terror and that officials provide strong support for peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
