Colombo: India has sent around 150 tons more oxygen to Sri Lanka to help the island fought the third wave of Pandemic Covid-19.
Sri Lanka on Friday expanded its national locking until September 13 amid a surge in the number of Covid-19 deaths and pressure installation on the health care system.
“Life from India to Sri Lanka approached 150 tons of oxygen from Vizag and Chennai reaching Colombo Beach,” Indian High Commission in Colombo Tweeted on Saturday.
India since the middle of last month had sent oxygen supplies to Sri Lanka which was urgent after asking for personal assistance by President Sri Lanka Rajapaksa, he said.
Indian Navy Ship Shakti in August sent 100 tons of liquid medical oxygen to Sri Lanka to help the island.
Indian assistance for Sri Lanka during pandemics has varied and needs.

Currency exchange of $ 400 million was provided in July 2020.
The first consignment of the vaccine, which was contributed by India in January 2021, allowed Sri Lanka to be launched a vaccination program ahead of the schedule, said Indian High Commission.

On Thursday, more than 9,600 people had died of Coronavirus and the total infection reached 447,757.
