India, the US is a natural allies, especially in the field of education: Dharmendra Pradhan

Washington: India and the United States are natural allies, especially in the field of education, the Minister of Education Union Dharmendra Pradhan said and emphasized that there was great potential to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions of the two countries.

He spoke during a virtual round table on ‘Advancing Indian-As Education Partnership on Wednesday.
Roundtable is organized by the Indian Embassy in connection with five consulates in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston and Atlanta.
“India and the US are natural allies, especially in the field of education.
There is a lot of potential to strengthen collaboration between Indian and US education institutions, especially in the interlinking industry, academics and policy makers,” Pradhan said.

He said the 2020 National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has opened up students’ mobility and teachers around the world and encourage research partnerships and mutually beneficial collaboration.
“To harmonize with the announcement of the Prime Minister at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow, the Indian education system must be prepared to be in harmony with global aspirations and NEP 2020 allowing such alignment,” he added.
Roundtable was attended by the President, Chancellor, and representatives of 20 American universities including Colorado University, New York University, University of Rice and Illinois University etc.
All American participants agreed that the NEP 2020 was the welcome announcement and that the elimination of restrictions, especially bureaucratic obstacles, from the education sector would be mutually beneficial for India and the US in all fields, especially the economy.
Representatives from most American universities said they wanted to partner with India on several interesting special topics – Cybersecurity, health services, biotech, artificial intelligence, data science, agriculture, climate change and sustainability.
They said they wanted to encourage collaboration and research relations with existing partners and explore new relations with educational institutions in India.
In his speech, the Indian Ambassador to US Taranjit Singh Sandhu said the international affairs office had been established in more than 150 universities throughout India.
New guidelines have been issued for Indian higher education institutions to move forward in the international level.
Regulations to instill internships in general education have moved.
The government proposes to establish a national research foundation to further increase the research ecosystem in the country, he said.
“All of this provides great opportunities for US institutions.
We can now see students’ mobility and two-way research: US students can conduct short-term courses or several semesters in Indian institutions.
We certainly have more exchange and academic exchanges as well.

“Educational institutions in both countries can also explore joint projects in third countries including in Africa, Latin America and Indo-Pacific.
The top political leadership of the two countries has talked about it,” he said.
Chairman of the University Grant Commission D P Singh, all the Technical Education Board (AICTE) of the Chairman of Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Deputy Chancellor Jawaharlal Nehru Jagadesh Kumar and the others attended the round table.
Indian speakers note that this is the right time to take advantage of Indian-US partnerships and their common fields of interest, education is the most important for all.
Lately, India has intensified its interactions with American education institutions.
The Sandhu Ambassador himself has interacted with more than 120 presidential university.
Embassies have held several interactions between educators and Indian and US experts to explore ways to deepen educational partnerships.
