New Delhi: The center on Wednesday approved the ratification of Indian Kigali amendments to the Montreal protocol on the elimination of Hydroflurocarbon Recrigurocarbon which damaged the climate (HFCS).
The amendment gradually reduced the use of HFC in the late 2040s adopted by 197 countries in Rwanda in October 2016.
In its commitment to the Montreal protocol, India will complete the phase of HFC fall, which is used in AC, refrigerators and foam isolation, in four steps from year 2032 onwards with a cumulative reduction of 10% by 2032, 20% in 2037, 30% in 2042 and 80% in 2024-26 baseline.
“The national strategy for the bottom phase of HFCs according to the phase schedule down for India will be developed after the consultation needed with all industrial stakeholders in 2023,” said the cabinet note about the decision.
Different countries have different down phase plans under the protocol.
Developed countries including the US, Canada, Western European and Japanese nations will reduce the use of HFC first, followed by China and then by 10 developing countries including India, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan.
Overall, this action is expected to reduce the use of HFC by 85% by 2045 compared to the baseline area by various countries.
Moving the HFCS phase down by all member countries Protocol assumes the significance at this point because collective action is expected to prevent emissions from up to 105 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent to greenhouse gases, helping to avoid up to 0.5 degrees Celsius.
The increase in global temperature at 2100, while continuing to protect the ozone layer.
The Montreal protocol on the ozone layer substance, is an international environmental agreement for the protection of the ozone layer by removing the production and consumption of man-made chemicals as a depletion of ozone (ODS).
Ozone Stratosphere \ Layer protects humans and the overall environment of the level of ultraviolet radiation that is harmful from the sun.
After gradually removing the use of HFCs, countries will use alternative cleaners.
