New Delhi: One of the 23 Indian Cricketers on the ongoing English tour has been positively tested for Covid-19 during a 20-day break and will not travel with the team to Durham on Thursday.
The news came after Secretary BCCI Jay Shah recently sent an email to the Indian contingent in the UK who warned him about the increasing Covid-19 case.
This side is to reinstall in Durham in bio-bubbles ahead of the test series against England next month.
“Yes, one of the players has been positively tested even though he is mostly asymptomatic at this time.
He was in quarantine at the acquaintance and would not travel with the team to Durham on Thursday,” BCCI source said in anonymity condition.
While the tour party in England tightly had the name of the player, understood that he had suffered a Delta variant which has led to the increase in the number of cases there.
Shah, in his letter, told the players to “avoid” crowded places because the covishield only provides protection, not full immunity of the virus.
In fact, Shah’s letter specifically stated that the player had to avoid going to Wimbledon and the euro championship, which was recently concluded there.
The Indian team will be taken in England in a five-match test series starting August 4.
