New Delhi: Explaining non-recognition of Covishield by Britain as a discriminatory policy, India Tuesday warns England from “reciprocal steps” if the latter does not overcome Indian concerns over the rules of his new trip.
The Secretary of the Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla said this problem was also taken by the Minister Overseas S Jaishankar with British authority.
Friction points have appeared when India-English bonds are seen in upswing with both parties working to complete the trade pact.
New rules are seen seriously the inconvenience of Indian travelers.
“The basic problem is that on here is a vaccine, covishield, which is a licensed product from a British company, which is produced in India where we have provided five million doses to the UK at the request of the British government, “said Shringla,” pointing to the inconsistency in the rules announced by the British government.
According to the new rules, Indian travelers who have received a covishield vaccine dose produced by the Indian Serum Institute will be deemed not vaccinated and must isolate themselves for 10 days.
“We understand that this is being used under the National Health System, and, therefore, non-recognition of Covishield is a discriminatory policy and does have an impact on our citizens traveling to England,” Shringla added.
Sources say India will take reciprocal action against travelers from the UK if the worries are not addressed on October 4, when new British rules will come into force.
The foreign secretary said he had been told that certain “guarantees” were given by the UK that the problem would be resolved.
“We also offer several partner countries the choice to recognize the vaccination certificate …
we must see how it goes.
But if we do not get satisfaction, we will be in our rights to impose reciprocity steps,” said Shringla.
