New Delh: Mission Chef De India for Tokyo Paralympics, Gursharan Singh believes the country will produce his best performance this year, returning with at least 15 medals including five gold.
India will involve its biggest contingent with 54 athletes set to compete in nine sports including – archery, athletics, badminton, canoes, shoot sports, paragrifting the powerlifting, table tennis and taekwondo.
“I am sure that this will be our best paralympic match.
Our athletes have worked very hard in the past few years and showed good results in international competition.
They were filed to go for the match,” Singh, Secretary General of the Indian Paralympics Committee, said in release.
“We expect about 15 medals including 5 gold in these games.
We have high medals in Athletics Para, the badminton, paragu archery.” India has a total of 12 medals including four gold in 11 Paralympic performances.
The first batch of the Indian team, led by PCI President Deepa Malik, has arrived in Tokyo.
T Mariyappan, who is a bearer of the Indian flag in the match, also arrives in Tokyo and there will be a lot of hope from the high jumper to reach the second Paralympic Gold in Tokyo.
Mariyappan made a brilliant leap of 1.86 meters in the national selection test recently.
“It was one of my best performances (in the selection test) since Rio 2016,” Mariyappan said, who had experienced permanent disability with his right foot in an accident on the road.
“I suffered an ankle injury in 2017 and it took time to get well.
It’s been a long time since I was looking for my old rhythm back.
And I believe I have got it back now.
I feel I’m ready for a match.
I will aim at gold.” Apart from Mariyappan , India will have the development of medals from their Javelin thrurrers led by two-time Paralympics Champions Devendra Jhjhariah (F46).
Ordered World Champion Sundar Singh Gurjar and Ajeet Singh (also at F46), World Champion and World Record Holder at the F64 Sandeep Chaudhary and Navdeep Singh (F41) are other people who will pay attention to the Javelin.
India is also banking in shooters and badminton players to rise to opportunities in Tokyo.

1 and world champion heavy-time Pramod Bhagat will lead the Indian badminton in the hope of a gold medal to rest at him on the men’s SL3 event.
