New Delhi: India will hold a series of high-level bilateral talks with Australia when Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne and New Defense Minister Peter Dutton visited India next month for dialogue 2 + 2 with their colleagues Jaisankar and Rajnath Singh.
Both countries, which are close partners now, are working on dates for meetings, according to the report.
Engagement will come after independent visit to India last week by former Australian PM Tony Abbott, which is now a special envoy for trade and investment.
In a piece he wrote after the visit and meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abbott said, “Because the trade agreement is about as much politics as much as the economy, a quick agreement between India and Australia will be an important sign of a democratic world tilting away.

Although currently not as rich in China, as a democracy under the supremacy of the law, and as the second largest steel and pharmaceutical producer in the world, and with the Silicon Valley version itself, India is perfectly placed to replace for China in a global supply chain.

Although Abbott was clearly interested in encouraging Indian relations, he blamed the “sub-par trade relations” mostly on our high tariff structure and the system contemplating.
As a member of quad grouping, India and Australia has undergared the burden of China’s anger last year – India on the border at East Ladakh and Australia faced Chinese boycott about coal exports, wheat, and wine.
Strategically they are closer than before.
In fact, Modi will meet Scott Morrison at the first four meeting in Washington, scheduled tentatively in September this year.
