Indian Approach to Afghanistan Guided by ‘Special Relations’ with the People: Amb Tiringuti

The United Nations: India has said that its approach to Afghanistan is always guided by “special relationships” with the people of Afghanistan and New Delhi remain steadfast in its commitment to humanitarian assistance that is needed for torn countries.
When the largest regional development partner in Afghanistan, India is willing to coordinate with other stakeholders to work to enable the provision of humanitarian aid that is needed for the people of Afghanistan, India’s permanent representatives to the United Nations Ambassador TS Tirumu on Wednesday on the safety of the Security Council on the UN assistance mission in Afghanistan.
“Our special relationship with Afghans and guidance spelled in UNSC 2593 resolution will continue to guide India’s approach to Afghanistan.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan,” he said.
In this effort, Diplomats noted, India has been committed to providing 50,000 mt of wheat medicines and saving lives and one million doses of covid vaccines to the Afghan people.
India has sent three shipments of humanitarian assistance consisting of drugs and covid drugs, which are submitted to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Indira Gandhi’s children’s hospital in Kabul.
India also joined other board members last month in supporting the resolution to provide humanitarian assistance for the Afghan community, while ensuring that the Security Council carried out its supervision to maintain the possibility of transferring possible funds from sanctions.
Tirumuti reiterates that humanitarian assistance must be based on the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence and disbursement of assistance must be non-discriminatory and can be accessed by all, regardless of ethnicity, or political beliefs.
Afghanistan is currently in the midst of a humanitarian disaster because several countries and international organizations have suspended or substantially cut assistance to Kabul after the Taliban takeover.
Afghanistan has been under the Taliban government since August 15 when Afghan Hardline militant groups overthrew the elected government of President Ashraf Ghani and forced him to escape from the country and take refuge in the UAE.
