JOHANNESBURG: Indian Batsmen need to take advantage of their opportunities and aim for longer partnerships if they rise back from their test defeat on Thursday and still winning a draw in South Africa, coach Rahul Dravid said.
India lost by seven nose in the second test in Wanderers on Thursday, which established an interesting final at Cape Town next week with a 1-1 level level.
If India will win, and in the process of taking the first series victory in South Africa, they need to perform on a batting order, Dravid said the post-match virtual news conference on Thursday.
“Gawi in the first two tests is a little challenging, I will give it to the Batsmen.
But we are proud of the desire to do better and the batting unit certainly can be seen maybe capturing some of the main moments and when we get a partnership, it might make them a little longer, “He said.
“In the first round, sort of ball tends to kick a little, but we might be able to get 60-70 more walking.” India was elevated to 202 in their first round, which was answered by the host with 229.
India then scored 266 in their second round on a deteriorating pitch to regulate the target of South Africa 240, which they achieved with seven wickets batting performance.
“Of course we want to stare a little better.
We must continue to improve and get better.
Maybe some people who start can turn them into hundreds,” Dravid added.
“I think it’s a difference in the first test where KL Rahul continues to get a hundred for us and we end up on the side of victory.” In the second test, they have someone (Elgar Dean) ending at 96 and they end up on the side of victory.
“It really shows his interests, on this type of goal, from one of your ongoing batsman and makes a big score,” the coach said.
