Indian coal production fell slightly with 2% at FY’21

New Delhi: The total Indian coal production registered a marginal decline of 2.02 percent to 716.084 million tons during the last fiscal year.
This country has produced 730.874 million tons (MT) of coal in FY’20, according to temporary statistics 2020-21 from the Coal Ministry.
Of the total production of 716,084 MT, 671,297 MT was non-coal coal and the remaining 44,787 MT was Cooking Coal, he said.
Of the total nation output, a slice of 685,951 MT was produced by the public sector, and the remaining production of 30.133 MT came from the private sector.
In TA 2020-21, Chhattisgarh registered the highest coal production of 158.409 MT, followed by Odisha 154,150 MT, Madhya Pradesh 132,531 MT, and Jharkhand 119,296 MT.
Like the previous years, at FY’21, Jharkhand was the main manufacturer of Cooking Coal with output 44,387 MT, which was 99.11 percent of the total coal coal production of 44,787 MT.
Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi said that even though the pandemic effect had been everywhere, the coal sector had shown its resilience reflecting the criticality of its contribution to a stable Indian economic development.
Coal Secretary Anil Kumar Jain said that coal formed the backbone of the Indian energy system because it contributed to nearly 58 percent of the supply of commercial primary energy countries and coal-based power was more than 70 percent of the power produced in this country.
Coal India Ltd itself accounts for 83.26 percent of coal production in this country.
