New Delhi: Facebook India on Monday said it has appointed Ex-Ias Officer and former Uber Executive Rajiv Aggarwal as Director of Public Policy.
He replaced Ankhi Das, who stopped in October last year.
He was involved in controversy to oppose the enforcement of hatred rules for the right-wing leader in the country.
Aggarwal, in this role, will define and lead important policy development initiatives for Facebook in India on the agenda that includes user safety, data protection and privacy, inclusion and internet governance, said statement.
In this role, Aggarwal will report to Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Director of Indian Facebook Implementing, and will be part of the Indian leadership team, he added.
His last task was with Uber, where he was the head of public policy for India and South Asia, said the statement.
Aggarwal comes with 26 years of experience as an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS), and has worked as a district judge in nine districts in the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.
During his term as administrative officer, he directed the first national policy in India about Intellectual Property (IPRS) as a Joint Secretary in the Department to promote the industry and trade internally (M / o trade), and play an important role in the Digital Transformation of the Indian IP Office, said That statement.
He has been closely associated with the Indian-US bilateral trade forum, besides being the main Indian negotiator on the IPRS with other countries, he added.
At the appointment, Ajit Mohan said Facebook was an allied for an interesting economic and social transformation witnessed by India, with digital playing a central role.
