Devbhumi: A fisherman of Maharashtra was killed and a member of his crew was injured in shooting by Pakistani Marine Security Agency personnel (PMSA) near the international maritime line in the Arabian Sea outside the Gujarat Coast, a police officer said on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 4 pm on Saturday, he said.
“A fisherman from Thane in Maharashtra, who was on a fishing boat ‘Jalpari,’ was killed after PMSA personnel fired him and other crew members on Saturday night,” said Devbhumi Dwarka Supervisor Sunil Joshi.
There were seven crew members on board and one of them also suffered a minor injury in the shooting incident, he said.
The deceased fisherman’s body, Sridhar Ramesh Chamre (32), was taken to Port Okha on Sunday and a FIR was registered by police Porbandar Navi Bandar, who had jurisdiction throughout Gujarat for whatever happened outside 12 miles of sea at sea Arabic, he added.
“Chamre is on the ‘Jalpari’ fishing boat, who sailed from Okha on October 25 with seven crew members, five of them from Gujarat and two of Maharashtra,” Joshi said.
Investigation into the incident was ongoing, he said.
