Rameswaram: Around 60 Indian fishing boats from here damaged in the pelted stone, allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy, said a fisheries department official on Sunday.
Lankan Navy personnel also damaged the fishing net in 25 ships, while they were involved in fishing near the Katchatheevu last night, he said.
Quoting fishermen, the official said naval personnel came around five ships and pelted stones on Indian ships, causing damage around 60 of them.
However, no fishermen were injured in the incident.
The representative of the Serit fishermen association in around 556 vessels had seated on Saturday night and alleged that some of them were targeted by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Expressing concerns over such an ‘repeat’ incident, he is looking for central and state government interventions to complete solutions to this problem and ensure their livelihoods.
Complaints have been submitted with senior fisheries officials.
