New Delhi: Indian forests and tree cover have increased by 2.261 square kilometers in the past two years with Andhra Pradesh fostering a maximum forest cover of 647 square kilometers, according to Indian State Report (ISFR) 2021 released on Thursday.
The two-annual report by the Indian Forest Survey (FSI), the assessment of state forest resources, was released by the Minister of Environment United Bhupender Yadav.
He revealed that the total tree cover and forest cover in this country includes an increase of 1,540 kilometers of square forest cover and 721 km square cover compared to the 2019 report.
“Very satisfying knowing that tree and forest cover has increased in India.
This report also touches aspects What is important in terms of climate change.
“We entered the second stage of the green mission, the ministry has taken several decisions to improve forest conservation and community participation.
To achieve India’s goal to increase additional carbon sinks of 2.5 to 3 billion tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030, Nagar Van YOJNA has been introduced to increase the tree cover and join the second phase of the green mission in the next five years, “Yadav said at the address.
He also said forest officials and frontline staff played a big role in saving forests and working under difficult conditions so that the Ministry of Environment worked to give them work security and assistance in developing their capacity.
The minister emphasized the need for generous tree plantations to reduce the private sector Forest burden.
“To reduce the burden in our forests, the private sector must ensure maximum tree plantations.
For this, our department has initiated the consultation process.
Under the forest conservation law, we invite advice from people and have received more than 5,000 responses.
Our biggest goal is to maintain the quality of the forest and increase green cover, “he said.
According to the report, the total forest and the closure of Indian trees is now spread at 80.9 million hectares, which is 24.62 percent of the country’s geographical region.
Five states in terms of increasing Forest cover is Andhra Pradesh (647 Km Square), Telangana (632 Km Square), Odisha (537 Km Square), Karnataka (155 Km Square) and Jharkhand (110 Km Square).
“Advantages in forest cover or increasing density of forest canopies can Associated with better conservation measures, protection, afforestation activities, tree plantations and agroforestry, “said the report.
Wisely, Madhya Pradesh has the largest forest cover in the country followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Maharashtra.
Reports It also added that the Northeast did not show positive results because the current assessment showed a decrease in forest cover as far as 1,020 km of Perse GI in the region.
Arunachal Pradesh lost forest cover a maximum of 257 kilometers, followed by Manipur who lost 249 Km Square, Nagaland 235 sq km, Mizoram 186 km km and Meghalaya 73 square kilometers.
The report said 17 states / UTS have above 33 percent of the geographical area under forest cover.
Out of these countries and UTS, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya have more than 75 percent of forest cover, while 12 states / utiat (Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Goa, Uniform, Sikkim, Uttarakhand , Chhattisgarh), Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Assam, Odisha) have forest cover between 33 percent to 75 percent.
The report also said the total number of 140 hills of the country’s district, the forest cover was reduced by 902 square kilometers in the past two years.
In the 2019 report, forest cover in the hill area has increased by 544 square kilometers.
It also recorded an increase of 17 square kilometers on the mangrove cover in the country compared to the previous assessment of 2019.
The total mangrove cover in this country is 4,992 square kilometers.
The top three states show that the increase in mangrove cover is Odisha (8 square kilometers) followed by Maharashtra (4 Km Square) and Karnataka (3 Km Press).
According to the report, the total carbon stock in the state forest is estimated at 7,204 million tons and there is an increase of 79.4 million tons in state carbon stocks compared to the latest 2019 assessment.
Annual increase in carbon stocks is 39.7 million tons.
Indian forest survey (FSI), in collaboration with the Birl Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, Goa Campus also conducted research based on the ‘hotspot mapping of climate change in Indian forests as part of the report.
Collaborative studies are carried out with the aim of mapping climate hotspots on forest cover in India, using computer-based projections and rainfall data, for three periods of time in the future, namely 2030, 2050 and 2085.
