New Delhi: Ambitious Green India Mission (GIM) plan to carry out afforestation activities under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) has regarding road barriers in several countries, resulting in a shortage of 30% in the target from 2015-16 to 2020-21.
Although five of the 15 countries / regions of the union were selected for the mission to reach 100% of their targets, the other three – West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and J & K – so far did not appear to improve the quality of green cover in this country.
Mizoram, Odisha, Punjab, Karnataka and Sikkim have reached 100% of their five-year targets while others report shortages in various degrees, showing data distributed by the Ministry of Environment in response to information sought by RTI Apa activists.
Ministry data shows that these 15 states together have brought qualitative changes in forest cover / trees over an area of ​​1,17,507 hectares of their collective target of 1.67,151 hectares over a period of five years.
The ministry has so far released more than RS 455 Crore to the state / UTS for that purpose.
The center has begun to channel money into 15 states / UT to carry out different afforestation activities under the GIM in 2015-16.
The game was launched as one of the eight missions under NAPCC because of protecting, restoring, and increasing the country’s forest cover reduced and responding to climate change with a combination of adaptation and mitigation measures.
This mission imagines a holistic view of greening and focuses on various ecosystem services such as absorption and storage of carbon (in forests and other ecosystems), hydrological services and biodiversity together with fuel supply services, foders, and non-wood and wood forest products.
