New Delhi: Afghan Ambassador to India, Farid Mamundzay, has said that the Indian consulate in Kandahar has not been closed & continues to operate through local staff.
“Temporary size to bring diplomats back to India is based on safety & security reasons.
India’s long-term commitment to peaceful, sovereign, sorry, & stable,” tweeted Mamundzay.
MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi also said on Sunday that the decision to bring back Indians deployed in Afghanistan is temporary.
“India monitors the development situation that develops in Afghanistan.
Security and security of our personnel is the most important.
The Indian Consulate General in Kandahar has not been closed.
However, because the intense battle near Kandahar City, India-based personnel have been brought back for now.
I want to emphasize that this is a pure temporary size until the situation stabilizes, “Bagchi said.
New Delhi evacuated all personnel based in India from Kandahar on Saturday night with special flights such as the Taliban advancing to the area in the middle of battle and violence.
Concerns about the arrest of Afghanistan by the Taliban had grown in recent weeks.
The Taliban recently claimed to now control more than 85% of the South Asian countries.
India has closed its mission in Jalalabad and Herat in 2020.
While claimed that Covid was the reason for it, the security situation was reported to play a role in the decision.
