LONDON: American tennis player from Indian Samir Banerjee on Sunday lifted the title Singles Boys Wimbledon with a direct victory over compatriot Victor Lilov.
Just playing the Grand Slam Junior, the 17-year-old won 7-5, 6-3 in the final which lasted in one hour 22 minutes.
Banerjee’s parents had moved to America in the 1980s.

India has struggled to involve a decent competitor in the Junior Grand Slams for some time now.
Because of the lack of strong domestic circuits and do not have enough competition at home to get world ranking points, India has struggled to create the next children’s plants.
Yuki Bhambri was the last Indian who won the title of Junior Single when he won at the Australian Open in 2009 while Sumit Nagal won the children of the Wimbledon double in 2015 with Ly Nam Vietnam.
Ramanathan Krishnan was the first Indian who won a junior major when he won the 1954 Junior Wimbledon championship.
His son Ramesh Krishnan won the 1970 Junior Wimbledon and Junior France, while Leander Paes won the 1990 Junior Wimbledon and Junior Open.
Paes also runners-up in the Australian Junior Open.
