Indian power consumption returns to pre-covid level in July

New Delhi: Indian power consumption grew nearly 12 percent in July to 125.51 billion units (BU) and returned to the pre-pandemic level mainly due to delayed sidewalk and monsoon easing, according to the Ministry of Power data.
In July 2020, power consumption reached 112.14 billion, lower than 116.48 Bu on the same month 2019 (pre-pandemic level).
Thus, power consumption is not only growing year-to-year but also returns to the pre-pandemic level.
Experts said the recovery of demand and power consumption in July 202 was mainly due to the attacks of monsoon and surge in economic activity amid easing limiting limiting by the state.
They said the demand for power and consumption returned to the pre-covid level in July and strong recovery is expected in the coming months.
Demand and consumption of commercial and industrial power is affected by April this year due to limiting locking imposed by the state.
Experts say that in the midst of a decrease in the number of positive cases of Covid-19 daily across the country and easing limiting locking by countries, commercial and industrial demand for power will definitely rise from July and so on.
Demand for peak power is fulfilled or the highest supply in a day touches the highest of 200.57 gw in July (recorded on July 7, 2021).
Daily power consumption also touched all time of 4,508 million units on July 7, 2021.
The demand for peaks met for the whole month of July 2020 was 170.40 gw.
Therefore, demand for peak power meets growth which recorded almost 18 percent in July 2021, compared with 170.40 gw (recorded on July 2, 2020).
Peak power requests met noted at 175.12 gW in July 2019.
Last year, the government had imposed locking on March 25, to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
The key decreases gradually, but has achieved economic and commercial activities and produces lower commercial and industrial demand for electricity in this country.
Power consumption in April 2021 saw year-on-year growth nearly 38.5 percent.
The second wave of Covid-19 began in mid-April this year and affected the recovery of commercial and industrial power demand when countries began to impose restrictions on the last part of the month.
Power consumption in the country witnessed by 6.6 percent year-on-year growth in May at 108.80 billion despite a 102.08 BU low base in the same month in 2020.
According to the latest data, power consumption in June grew almost 9 percent 114.48 Mom, compared to 105.08 Bu on the same month last year.
Power consumption in February this year was recorded at 103.25 billion, compared to 103.81 Bu a year ago.
In March this year, power consumption grew nearly 22 percent to 120.63 billion, compared to 98.95 BU in the same month in 2020.
After a six-month gap, power consumption has recorded year-on-year growth in September 2020, and 11.6 percent in October 2020.
In November, the growth of power consumption slowed to 3.12 percent, mainly due to the occurrence of early winter.
In December, it grew 4.5 percent, while this was 4.4 percent higher on January 202.
