The South African home cricket series that will come against India will be played without a spectator because of the wave of Covid-19 infection, said Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday.
South Africa accommodates India in the three-test series starting on Sunday in Centurion.
The teams were also scheduled to play three international international starting from January 19, Africa (@Officialcsa) 164000847000 South African Council said in a statement that the decision to play behind a closed door was taken along with the Indian cricket board (BCCI).
“This decision is taken to avoid violations that can endanger the tour of the Covid risky perspective and also maintain a hazard-free bubble environment,” read the statement.
The statement added that the decision was made for the best interest of the game and the health and safety of players and staff.
South Africa reported a number of Covid-19 infections daily last week in the fourth wave which was believed to be largely due to the omicron variant.
