New Delhi: Indian security concerns will be “first and especially” and in “front and center” for us, said Wendy Sherman, Deputy Secretary of the US, on Wednesday, during a three-day visit to India.
Noting that the US appreciated India’s concern for the spread of terrorism from Afghanistan, he told a group of certain journalists that Washington compiled a strong program for the ability to “over-the-horizon” (OTH) for Afghanistan but did not describe it.
The US State Deputy Secretary said India and the US had a similar approach on the way ahead in Afghanistan which included the Taliban ensured the inclusive government and that Afghanistan should not be a safe place for terrorists.
He also emphasized a safe and orderly journey for those who want to leave Afghanistan and request a need to ensure respect for human rights.
Senior US officials said that the Taliban had to act, and not only talked to words and that no country rushed to recognize the dispensation in Kabul or giving legitimacy for it.
He said that there was a need to help Afghans.
Sherman arrived here on Tuesday on a three-day visit.
