Indianapolis: Three people including an injured police officer and a dead suspect in a shooting connected with domestic disorders reported in Indianapolis, said the authorities.
The clerk was called to an apartment on the northeast side of the city around 9pm on Wednesday and tried to make contact with the people in it.
When they checked outside, the police said the suspect fired a shot at the officer, striking one at the foot.
The officer was registered in a stable condition, police said.
A Swat team responded and went inside, where they found a girl and a woman with an injury to be consistent with gunshot wounds.
They were taken to the hospital, where they were listed in critical conditions.
The suspect was found with a gunshot wound itself, police said.
He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Three other young people in the apartment come out safely.
“Officers, when they get the type of call violence in this household, they are the most dangerous and uncertain calling types, officers can obtain,” said Police Chief Chris Bailey told reporters.
“You also have to think and wrap our arms around children who can escape.
They are traumatized.” There were no officers who fired their weapons during the response, police said.
Additional information is expected to be released on Thursday by the authorities.
In a statement, Mayor Joe Hogsett said he was grateful to hear that the officer was stable.
“My mind with officers and their families, as well as all the brave Impd officers who routinely experienced a danger to keep our community safe,” he said.
“We have to do everything we can to stop the scourge of violence, mobilize resources and unite neighbors to stop this demon cycle.”
