The Ministry of Textile in collaboration with the National Institute Design has started the IndiaSize survey, an extensive anthropometric research study to develop a comprehensive body size chart for the Indian population.
The idea behind this initiative is to develop a standard size chart for India, in the absence of Indians have long suffered by often finding clothes that are not installed in the leading label.

The launch of the IndiaSize survey was originally scheduled for February 2019, but was delayed because of the pandemic and finally launched recently by U.P.
Singh, Secretary (Textile).
“The national size survey will cost almost Rs 30 Crore and requires a population, aged 15-65 in six cities, with men and women in the same amount”, Director General of National Institute of Technology, Sarada Muraleedharan said in a statement.
“It will be a scientific exercise where anthropometric data will be collected from a 25,000 sample population to make a measurement database that will peak in a standard size chart, it truly represents the Indian population, which can then be adopted by the entire clothing industry,” Noopur Anand, Professor In Nift-Delhi and the project principle investigator to reporters in Delhi.
“The final result will be in numerical value.
We don’t know, if we only have a single numeric marker or more than one.
Also, around 120 different anthropometric elements, including, height, weight, waist size, hip size, bust size, will included in the survey, “he concluded.
