New Delhi: India’s first virtual science lab for children – under the ‘CSIR Jigyasa’ program – which will connect students with scientists throughout the country launched on Monday.

Singh told the Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the CSIR community meeting last year appreciating the program of linking – ‘Jigyasa’ – and has emphasized the importance of developing a virtual laboratory.
Therefore, CSIR has partnered with IIT Bombay to develop a virtual lab platform under the ‘CSIR Jigyasa’ program, which facilitates classroom learning with laboratory research for school students.
The target audience for the virtual lab is Standard VI students to XII (11-18 years), who want to explore science using different activities, the release said.
Singh said the main goal of the virtual lab was to provide exposure to quality research and innovative pedagogy for school students to encourage their scientific curiosity based on online interactive media with simulation experiments, pedagogy-based content, videos, animations, quizzes, sharing facilities, webinars etc.
He said the content would be available in English at first, but it was planned to be available in Hindi and other regional languages as well.
Singh said the virtual lab would provide a virtual tour of the CSIR Laboratory and expose students to examine infrastructure, the opposite will be difficult to visit physically considering safety standards.
The platform will also have options for interacting with scientists and looking for their inputs.
The main spotlight of the virtual lab is: Open Source Platform; access content in regional languages; scientist / researcher support; Up-gradation knowledge for teachers and students; project-based support; fun-based game; Video and animation based needs; Simulation experiments; Promote scientific temperament; Science-based webinar; student entrepreneurship; student expert forum; Students to the student forum; Simplified content; Availability for technical assistance; Build confidence and motivation, release added.
