Indigenous population is at a higher risk of Covid-19 infection, the CCMB study said

Hyderabad: isolated population and ethnic groups in India are at the risk of higher infection than Covid-19, revealing international research studies where scientists from city-based centers for cellular and molecular biology (CCMB) have participated.
India has several isolated populations and ethnic groups, especially those who live in the Andaman Islands and Nicobar and mainland land forest.
Senior CCMB scientist Dr K Thangaraj, who is also the director of the DNA Fingerprint and Diagnostic Center (CDFD), along with Prof.
Gyaneshwer Chaubey from Hindu Banaras University (BHU), and researchers from other institutions have found that since the population is isolated and smaller society Bring a long DNA segment, most likely at a higher risk of infection from the Coronavirus novel.
The researchers have concluded that the severe impact of Covid-19 has a traditional group in Brazil.
These groups have a higher level of infection with double death than normal populations.
Many traditional communities in many countries are now on the verge of extinction thanks to pandemic.

“India is home to several indigenous and small communities including the Andaman Islanders, which lives in isolation for tens of thousands of years.
We have investigated a high density genome data of more than 1,600 individuals from 227 ethnic populations.
We find high frequencies of adjacent homozigu genes (segment Long genes) among the costs and jarawa and some populations and several populations, which are in isolation and follow strict endogamy, making them very susceptible to Covid-19 infection, “Dr.
Thangaraj.
As part of the study, the team also assessed the ACE2 gene variant which made individuals vulnerable to Covid-19.
Jarawa and Onge population are found to have a high frequency of this mutation.
“There are some speculations about the effect of Covid-19 among isolated populations.
However, for the first time, we have used genome data to assess the risk of pandemic in small and isolated populations”, said Prof.
Chaubey.
Researchers from the University of Amrita and the University of Calcutta apart from those in Saudi Arabia and the US are also part of the study.
Dr.
Vinay Kumar Nandicoori, Director of CCMB, said this study had suggested the need for high priority protection and treatment for an isolated population.
