Nagpur: Infestation of Bollworm Pink in more cotton gardens has caused concern that spraying pesticides can increase during this season, and in turn leading to an increase in inhalation cases of unintentional pesticides.
Weather is hot with heavy rain, as seen today, creates the right conditions for pest growth.
This can increase spraying, and farmers also avoid wearing safety kits in moist weather.
Vinod Chavan, a 42-year-old farmer from Yavatmal District, allegedly died of inhaling pesticides last week.
His relatives said he fell unconscious on the return of agriculture.
Chavan was taken to the Medical College (GMC) government, Yavatmal, where he was declared dead.
At present, there are four other patients in GMC, the condition is stable, said a senior doctor.
“The case comes every year,” he said.
Toi spoke with his son, Pramod, who said that his father did not wear a mask while spraying pesticides but had covered his face with a handkerchief.
“He started in the morning and might forget to take a mask,” he said.
The post-mortem report is awaited.
In 2017, a large number of deaths were reported at Vidarbha because of pesticide poisoning.
Yavatmal is an epicenter with the highest fatality of 20 to 23.
A number of safety campaigns have begun after that.
Experts and farmers directly connect pink bollworm with inhalation incidents.
This is because if the bollworm’s attack increases, spraying also goes up to risk.
Indian Pesticides Network (PAN) and the Association of Maharashtra Pesticide Poison (MAPP) has launched a website to create awareness about the use of safe pesticides and also post stories of victims’ individuals.
Narsimha Reddy of Pan said this season was very conducive to growing Bollworm.
Yavatmal Amol Yegade District collector said that the pesticide company provides a kit to choose farmers.
“The kit may not reach all, but the district administration is traveling consciousness.
Farmers are asked to wear masks and gloves, not to consume tobacco and do not work with empty stomachs when spraying,” Yegade said.
The Swiss Syngenta pesticide company has been allocated a stewardship program in Yavatmal bags.
According to the details distributed by Syngenta officials, the third edition of the safety drive is being carried out this season.
The official said that 10,000 farmers would be safely trained.
More than 250 trained spray people will be deployed to prevent accidents.
More than 43,000 PPE kits have been distributed along with the encouragement of consciousness carried out at 1,100 villages.
Methods such as street games, posters for even audio video clips are used to create awareness.
Manish Jadhav, a farmer in Yavatmal and Shetkari members who said that despite efforts, the kit did not reach farmers.
Only a few choices have benefits.
“The problem has been taken with district administration,” he said.
For this official Syngenta said it was confirmed that each item reached the main beneficiary.
District administration also tracks.
Chairman of Vasantrao took Shetkari Swavalamban Mission (VNSSM), Kishore Tiwari, said that Bollworm had been reported in the initial varieties.
“At present, the intensity is the same as last year.
However, if the weather remains the same, there is a possibility that pest attacks increase,” he said.
Shetkari Sanghathana veteran Vijay Jawndhia said that it is necessary to one of the rain to counteract threats or infestations will likely increase.
