Panaji: a pediatric unit to serve the third wave of Covid which is expected to have been prepared at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao.
The last of the equipment to be installed is complete on Saturday.
Unit, 80-bed room, consisting of 61 beds in the pediatric ward.
It also has a high seven bed dependency unit (HTU) with a separate room for children, including those with seizures that must be monitored from a distance where each bed has a monitor and backup HFNO and ventilator.
Specialized Newborn Baby Care Unit (SNCU) has been equipped with twelve baby radiation heaters for new birth, which is mostly contributed by the Verna Industry Association.
The association has also contributed other equipment to the hospital.
The second floor lobby has been converted to a pediatric victim where children can be assessed separately and do not need to queue with others.
Here the doctors will decide whether children need to enter or not.
The second wave initially saw people queue for hours outside the victim without triage.
“Equipment has been installed and infrastructure is fully prepared and functional.
The South Goa Pediatric Department is ready to overcome the third wave,” said the Head of the Pediatric Department of SGDH Dr.
Ira Almeida.
