LONDON: England Batsman Ollie Pope on Saturday made the starter hesitant for the opening test against India after suffering a thigh injury during the surrey in a vitality explosion.
The 23-year-old Wicketkeeper-Batsman suffered a thigh muscle injury on July 2 during the Surrey match against Kent in the domestic T20 tournament.
“The Pope has been ruled out until the England LV = Insurance test series against India after suffering a left thigh muscle injury,” said the British Cricket and Wales (ECB) in a statement.
“The ECB and Surrey Fitness team will work together to provide Pope’s rehabilitation with a focus for him to be able to return for the first test against India.” The first test began at Trent Bridge on August 4.
The Pope has scored 882 running in 19 tests with the highest score of 135 not opposing South Africa in January 2020.
However, he has not been able to reach a 35-run sign in it the last 8 tests.
If he cannot recover from injury in time then Dawid Malan, who was impressed with the bat in the UK limited on the cricket, maybe get a chance.
