Chennai: Madras High Court has directed Tamil Nadu DGP to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras ‘functional’ in all spas and massage centers in the state.
“DGP will publish appropriate instructions to ensure that this spa, massage centers and therapy centers are conducting their business activities in a transparent way and avoiding remote or closed rooms that will pave the way for illegal activities,” said Justice S M Subramaniam.
The court passed the order while rejecting the request to move by C P Girija, who run the Ayurvedic therapy center at the ECR who tried to hold Chennai’s police from sacrificing his business activities.
“This court is from the opinion considered that there are large-scale accusations in the public domain against the Ayurvedic Spa and the massage center.
In the information, the police are empowered to carry out inspections.
If there are doubts to appear, they will definitely do inspections to verify business activities,” said court.
Therefore, if CCTV is installed, it will be more convenient for the authorities to verify the record to ensure that the massage centers are doing legitimate business alone, the judge said.
The court added that the strength and actions of law enforcement agencies cannot be limited thus no need to pave the way for every illegal activity by anyone on behalf of the spa or massage center.
Such prevention is not only constitutional but resulting in a crime encouragement in the community, the jury added.
