Patna: Cm Nith Kumar on Wednesday asked officials and engineers concerned in the Department of Energy to complete the Smart Prepaid Meter Installation (SPMS) in all households throughout the state before 2025.
He also overrides providing free electricity to consumers.
The SPM installation will require RS12,657 crore expenses, including RS11,100 Crore in rural areas.
As many as 3.5 lakh SPMS installed in 19 cities until December.
19 cities where the spm installation work has occurred is Bettiah, Raxaul, Motihari, Sitamarhi, Chhapra, Ara, Arwal, Rajgir, Hajipur, Patna, Masasti, Biharsharif, Samastipur, Department, Begusaria, Khagia, and Kathar.
CM also inaugurates the project that has been completed and placed the foundation stone for the scheme worth RS3.452 Crore.
He also dedicated the auditorium and art gallery that was newly built in Vidyut Bhavan.
Energy Minister of Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Commissioner of Development Amir Subhani, Additional Secretary of Pratyaya Amrit and Secretary Secretary Secretary CM Kumar was present on that occasion.
Nitish said the SPM would bring great benefits for consumers of power because they would not suffer the difficulties caused by the wrong billing.
“They will pay fees for the strength they consume,” he said.
Given the performance and achievements made by the department in several fields, the Power Minister Uni Raj Kumar Singh praised the country at a high-level meeting in Delhi, Yadav said.
Nitish said the same as the SPM installation work had begun on a large scale, some parts might demand free electricity.

He put the foundation stone for the scheme worth RS1.011.95 Crore.
Among other projects is Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) worth RS30.83 Crore, South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited RS60.04 Crore, the North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited RS 289.87 Crore and Country Transmission Company Bihar Limited Country Rs 2,059.42 Crore.
Secretary of the Energy Department Sanjeev Hans said 12 Lakh’s electric connections had been given through filing an online application without paper on the Suvidha application during Covid-19 pandemic.
Because each application requires 10 pages filling, the department saves 1.2 crore pages and adhere to environmental problems.
