Install the camera for civil polls, Calcutta HC told SEC

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday aimed the State Election Commission (SEC) to install CCTV cameras for the upcoming city selection.

“Bench, while recording the petition that accuses violence and coercion during the Kolkata Municipal Corporation company in December 19, directed the commission to preserve CCTV camera recordings of all cubicles in the city.
It also requested a poll panel to preserve a diary from the chairman’s officer, register that contains a thumbs up the impression / signature of the voter, the EVMS control unit and voting notes from all booths in the closed cover.
The division bench directed the applicant to object to the SEC compliance report and also a written statement by the state before the court took a problem to hear on January 6 General SN Mookherjee did not have jurisdiction to hear such a request unless they were submitted as an election petition.
The bench recorded a second submission of the tentative time frame to hold polls in 111 civil bodies in two phases on January 22 and February 27 and submission by Advocate General Mookherjee that the HOWRA MUNICIPAL CORPORATION (Amendment), 2021, has received the nod.
