Silchar: Silchar will get an international airport as soon as various formalities related to the project have been completed, the local parliament of Rajdeep Roy said on Tuesday.
Roy, a BJP MP, told the media that the center had provided an affirmative response to the construction of international airports in Silchar and that various formalities regarding materialization were wrapped.
“The problem related to the location selection is there, but they are expected to be resolved immediately,” he said.
“The airport will be established in an area scattered in 870 hectares and the announcement of the Mega Project will be made by the Chairman of the Minister of Himanta Buswa Sarma in January,” said Roy.
South Assam has a domestic airport in Kumbirgram, 29 km from here.
Built by the UK as a RAF station in 1944, it is also a civilian bag airport because it is under the control of the Indian Air Force.
This is the fourth busiest airport in the northeast after Guwahati, Agartala and Imphal.
About the East-West Corridor project, which connects Silchar with Saurashtra, Roy said he hoped at 33 Km Balacherra-Harangaja Stretching in the district of Dima Asao will be completed on March 2023.
“Overall 750 paucing must be done, where 600 has finished,” he said.
