Chennai: Inspector of Rajeshwari from T P Chathiram, who cleaned the fallen tree, received a call about a man who lay fainted in the grave at 8:30 a.m.
He rushed there believing that the man would be saved.
A tree had fallen to him during the unrelenting rain which disappointed Chennai.
The police took him to his shoulders to reach the autorickshaw he had arranged for the hospital.
In the 2-minute video that has now become a viral, Rajeshwari can be seen running panicked, bringing the man on his shoulder and shouting to his colleagues there that he must be saved at any cost.
He has covered it with a blanket.
The man, identified as a 28-year-old Udhayakumar, was treated in the ICU and said to be well recovered.
I Inspector Rajeshwari is no stranger to selfless public services.
He has led a team that investigated sexual attacks on a 11-year-old girl by more than a dozen men at Ayanavaram in Chennai in 2018.
In 1992, Rajeshwari received a letter of appreciation for exemplary work to save lives at Mahamaham Stampede.
Senior police officers remember Rajeswari for courage and humility.
He was the only non-IPS officer to receive an award at the police conference a few years ago in Thrissur.
He is known for saving poor women.
A native of Thani Regency, Rajeshwari has emptied all of his savings buying clothes and food every week for the purpose.
“I feel you have to have a purpose in life and it will help the poor.
It’s more satisfying than others,” Rajeshwari said.
