Int’l passenger traffic in Chennai Airport Spikes

Chennai: When the journey continues, international passenger traffic has recorded a stable surge at Chennai Airport.
The airport handled 83,000 passengers in August such as against 53,000 passengers in July.
It is ranked third after Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
Bengaluru handles 80,000 international passengers in August, according to statistics from the Indian Airport Authority (AAI).
The source said that the numbers for Chennai were projected to touch close to Lakh for September and October.
In the days of pre-covid, the airport is used to handle around 5lakh international passengers.
Although international flights scheduled have not been continued, there is a large demand from people traveling for education, business, and vacation.

S Baskar, a member of the Indian Federation Travel Agency Managing Committee (TAFI), said that “international travel will definitely increase in the coming months.” Sample surveys by Thomas Cook and SOTC among their customers throughout Metro show that around 77% of respondents want to fly abroad for free time in October-November-December.
Rajeev Kale, Head of President & State, Thomas Cook (India) Limited said, “Our survey highlighted a strong travel request for the last quarter of 2021.”
