Guwahati: Turning off the Assam government’s request for an additional six-week time to submit a comprehensive report on police meetings that have taken place in the state, the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has given four weeks to the government.
Taking awareness of Suo Motu, the Commission on July 7 has asked the state government to conduct an investigation into the situation that leads to shooting 12 accused of accusing police shooting because the new government takes over in one month.
On August 16, the State House and Political Department had searched for six-week extra time because many district authorities had not submitted a report.
But AHRC was given four weeks.
Sources at the Commission said the right rights agency also issued a notice to various district authorities, looking for details of the mortality of custodian.
Meanwhile, Thursday saw another meeting in Assam as alleged Dacoit Azhar Ali was shot by the police when he was suspected of trying to escape from police detention.
Three bullets regarding Ali’s foot which is currently undergoing treatment at the Lakhimpur civil hospital.
The two defendants have been injured at a police meeting in the Nagaon district and aim, police said on Wednesday.
With the latest incident, at least 21 alleged militants and criminals had been shot dead and 34 others were injured at the police meeting while trying to seize firearms or escape from detention.
The police claimed they shot in some cases in retaliation.
