Nagpur: Former Mla Ashish Deshmukh has filed a complaint with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) registrant, Suresh Rajurkar, against the alleged illegal sand mining conducted around Ghats Major Kanhan River.
In his letter, Deshmukh has stated that the regional government’s body has failed to curb the threat of illegal sand mining in various regions in the district.
Revealing the location to the green court, Deshmukh said that mining took place on a large scale in Khapapeth, Wakodi, Tembhurdoh, Ramdongri, Walni, Ranawadi, Isapur, Rohana, and many more river rivers that were in harmony with the Kanhan River.
Stating that according to the norm, sand mining activities must be truly stalled after June 30, Deshmukh demanded that the Joint Committee be formed to investigate this problem.
“Punishment must be applied to respondents, government officials and other people involved in illegal activities,” he said.
The next politician added that the sand mining policy must see scientific mining and sand management institutionalized along with the use of services that support IT for monitoring.
“The route of movement and transportation must be clearly determined to reduce the impact in the nearest villages and holland,” he said.
Deshmukh warns that illegal sand mining is bound because it is not only a long-term adverse effect on the environment but can also cause major disasters.
“In many places, excessive mining takes place without demarcation of the rented area.
It also leads to a weakening bridge built on the river.
Trucks that carry heavy loads also damage the road,” he said.
By stating that illegal sand mining agendas are national interests, Deshmukh shows that sand is an important part of a healthy river ecosystem.
“With the depletion of sand beds, the water crisis is bound to increase drastically if decisive action is not immediately taken,” he said, it was interesting for registrants to intervene in this matter.
